she stumbled away from the alpha pair, the season's mark still strong upon her. she had begged for water -- capriccio would guard her until the heat had ended, taggarik also -- but vuk's panic at the potential of being caged had lent her swift feet flight, and she lunged through the snows. the scent of the alpha male was heavy upon her withers, but he had not entered her, and the slight bruising she had gotten from the nameless beta had faded.

panting, the patterned girl paused in her wild flight -- she had run in the direction he had gone, though not so pointedly. taggarik and capriccio -- she saw neither of them, but soon they would be upon her. too addled and frightened to call out, vuk continued on with shaking steps, still redolent with the maddening scent.
