She wearily lifted her head, scanning for prey. The shrubbery in this region was scarce for some reason, and so to was the food. As she walked forward, scanning the terrain, she picked up a new scent. Thinking it might be something edible, she stumbled forward, only to stop, suddenly alert. No. It couldn't be. But it was. The scent of a pack of wolves. It must be their boundry. Finally. After a year of traveling in the wilderness, this was it. Wolves. A pack. A chance. Feeling nervous and a little excited, she stepped beyond the scent barrier. It had been so long since she had seen another wolf. And the only wolves she could remember seeing were her parents. Her parents pack was dying by the time she was born. There were too little wolves in the area to keep the population going. Her parents had decided to leave and find a different pack while they still could. But they had died on the journey. As she started to pad deeper into the packs territory, she reminded herself this was her one chance. She had to fit in.
