At first he thinks he is dreaming, that perhaps they are both Deirdre, and his heart lurches within his chest. But one of them is heavier, and the other sits at the head of the gathering point with an expression of impatience. Neither being could possibly be his perfect one, his beloved, and the boy's spirits instantly drop again. He dips his head and smiles wanly as he passes the others, and settles among the boulders with his attention focused primarily upon the woman he assumed called for them - though he had not met her in all his days with Donnelaith, he knows her scent drapes the boundary of the forest and that she must be respected.
