When the stranger caught wind of Whip's presence in the scuffle, he wrenched away roughly. Despite the boys collective lack of experiance, the tide of battle had quickly, and perhaps unfairly, turned to their favor. Knowing that he was fighting a losing battle, the stranger tore away and made his hasty retreat. Whip seethed with misplaced anger, yet he made no move to give chace. Instead, he drew his attention and concern to his brother. 

"Did he hurt you Gan?" asked Whip as he visually scanned his brother for injury. He appeared to be unhurt, but sometimes the worst injuries left no lasting marks. The presence of a stranger within the caldera -- unrelated by blood or long lasting familiarity -- was not welcome. Especially without Dad around to keep everyone safe. "If he comes back, we'll kill 'em."

The stranger had no place here, and Whip wanted his brother to know that he has his back.
