Before the boy could stand and continue his patrol, his attention was grabbed by the sound of incoming footfalls. Uncertain of the stranger’s origins and intentions, he stood just as the fur along his back was raised. Perhaps having sensed the other male’s own unease, the yearling lifted his lips and flashed his teeth in warning, only to slowly settle back down after noticing his swinging tail. Inhaling, he took in the scents around him, realizing right then that the stranger lived within the territory, too. Unabashed by his actions, Xan went on to act as if nothing had happened, his posture having relaxed slightly; his muscles remained tensed and his features expressionless, but that had since become his default mien.

After several moments of doing nothing more than look the male over, he finally asked, “What do you want?” Alexander was used to hearing another being speak as soon as they approached him, but Hush hadn’t done so. It was unusual to him.
