But even with the sea in such a vitriolic state, Hemithea would not be deterred — she sought the island where she'd first met Gabe, swimming against the currents for a few perilous hours until she dragged her sorry self on to the bank. While the girl's first visit had been quick and easy, this one was the antithesis -- she was drenched, panting hard, and sagging against the rocky shore with her silver-tipped fur hanging off of her body in ragged clumps. Hemithea could feel her heart pounding.
