She hadn't got to startle her mother as much as she would have liked, but Amekaze's mild surprise and chuff as she turned from the creek caused Lyra to break into a pleased grin. The wave of her mother's tail was returned with one of her own and the girl slid forward to be closer. She reached out to gingerly nose her muzzle into her thick neck fur, playfully nipping at some of the twisted stray hairs. "Hi, mama," she greeted softly.

She was sure Ame wouldn't be able to discern which of her daughters Lyra was yet, but she kind of liked it when her parents were uncertain of who was who. The anonymity gave her some sense of confidence almost. She brushed past the slightly larger wolf — who she almost stood as tall as now — and gave a barely audible giggle. "Aw, I was so close," she said with feigned disappointment before dipping her head down to take a sip from the creek.
