As Valette explained she seemed to be filled with a deeply rooted sorrow, which was fitting. But at the same time Larus couldn't fathom what he would be feeling should anyone in his family succumb to such an end. Then again, he didn't really have anyone.

I'm sorry,the boy murmured. He wasn't sure what to say or to do, so he didn't say anything for a while after that. He chose instead to sit quietly with his leader. Then, breaking the stillness after a long few moments of silence, he said,
If there is anything you need —but he didn't finish that sentiment. It was obvious that Valette's family would support her through this moment. Plus, what could he offer her that would make any difference? He was a newcomer who hadn't even known of Valette's daughter in the first place. He meant well but all he could do was be present.
