When the child spoke, the reactions of the others were ignored. Truthfully, he did not care for how they might feel towards his ascension up through the ranks; he had been there longer than many of them had even been alive—the exception being Shivali—and would not let himself be chased out or challenged by a group of children. So he turned his attention to Maegi, a small smile forming in response to her words, whilst the male gave a nod of his head. The children were well, he was glad. “That’s good. I worried about you guys,” he commented.

He looked between the child and Shivali, and then over the rest of the group. “Rest yourselves,” he said, dismissing them all. He then nodded towards his fellow northerner before motioning for Maegi—and her, too, should she wish to—to follow him. Should either female comply, he’d lead them through the forest, searching for the fallen so that they might be laid to rest properly.
