By the time that twilight had recaptured its claim of the sky overhead, Rannoch had found himself weaving amongst the sugary-smelling maple trees; the sweet fragrance was not the only that was present in the air. Rannoch could smell others but, the odor wasn't strong enough to verify that a pack claimed the land he trod deeper into. 

Many thoughts had occupied the Alpha's mind in his travels but, one idea, in particular, seemed to dominate; Rannoch was concerned that Liffey still not gone into heat. Although it probably wasn't the best idea for him to venture off with such a concern, Rannoch reminded himself that Terance would protect Liffey if necessary; his wife was in good hands until he returned to her. 

Aa Bronte chuffed, Rannoch froze suddenly and swung his head in the direction of where the sound had come from. Standing amongst the woods' silhouette was the shadow of a giant; although he was cautious, Rannoch was also intrigued by the man. He chuffed in reply, wondering what the other would do next.
