Border patrol. AW!
He'd been doing patrols even more frequently over recent times. His head was a mess, truthfully - the situation with Illecebra was like a stone that refused to move from his chest, a painful stab every time his mate drifted into his mind. Even after the way she'd hurt him (intentionally or not), he couldn't stop thinking about her. Even after the betrayal, she was still the one he saw whenever his eyes closed. He knew he was still in love with her, he knew even when the story was falling from her lips, but he couldn't bring himself to... well, he didn't even know. End it? He couldn't. He was a broken man, but cutting all ties with his love was not going to fix him. In fact, it would only shatter his heart more, and he was not sure he could stand any more pain like that.
His eyes were sullen as the man strolled at the edge of the borders, marking here and there and checking the caches dotted around. What was he to do? He couldn't just forgive her, but he couldn't exactly hate her for what she'd done, either. He was unbelievably stuck. What did send ripples of anger through his body was the fact that Howl had known that Illecebra was still regaining her memories, and took advantage of her in that state, the state where she could barely remember her husband. He'd trusted Howl, thought him a good wolf, but now he could only feel a stinging hate whenever the other man was mentioned.
It was funny how such a balanced, focused worker could be driven to such a different personality - Mawk had never been like this, and really, he wasn't. It was unordinary, it was strange, but it had a reason behind it. He himself hoped that it would not last, else he might lose himself and not be able to regain who he once was.
Breathe. A soft exhale left his muzzle, and he continued to patrol, trying his best to push the thoughts from his head.
