Although it was a gamble to give a stranger food instead of his own, Rannoch felt as though the reward would outweigh the risk—after all, Slavik had survived on his own and appeared to be well-fed. 

Once the groundhog was topped off, and the lone wolf confirmed he was ready, Rannoch took the lead. Without another word, he lifted his head to sniff so that he could examine the scents around them.  Aside from the obvious stench of fox, Rannoch could detect a handful of fresh prey scents—most of them being small prey. Rannoch turned to his companion, as he focused in on one odor in particular: [o]feral pigs[/i]. "I'm smelling a small group of pigs nearby," he observed. "Do you have experience hunting 'em?"
