Driftwood was kicking moodily along, wandering noplace in particular. His paws dragged despondently on the earth and his tail drooped along with them up until he caught scent and then sight of an interesting bit of fluff.
Driftwood's ears perked forward and he moved past the abandoned rabbit's foot. There, slumped on the ground, was a bizarre little pouf of an object—one that looked something like a tiny wolf pup but didn't really smell or sit quite right. Looking bewilderedly about gave him no further clues, so Driftwood tiptoed closer, eyes wide. He sniffed deeply, and then moved his snout in closer to give the thing a curious nudge. But as his nose leather touched upon the object, he felt a sudden fizzing sensation that quickly buzzed its way down his spine and all the way down to his toes. Drift yelped and leapt back, but it was too late. Whatever residue of freakish magic remained on the little toy had already latched onto him instead, and he thudded to the ground with a thump and a clatter, his limbs suddenly stiff and uncooperative and his tired eyelids refusing to properly blink. What in the world—?!

It looked like it had been well-loved, and understandably so given how delicious it smelled...but Driftwood wondered why such a prized possession had been left lying out in the dirt in the open. He rolled the thing over a time or two inquisitively with his nose after glancing all about and noting with some confusion that there was no wolf in sight. There were however some strange tracks in the dirt, he noted, ones that rang a strange distant bell in his mind but couldn't quite be placed. And—
