As he returned north along the chasm, the earth became more level and the shuddering of the earth became less intense. The wolf roamed as close to the edge as he dared until he could reach the river's shallow edge, and watched the water as if it were a living, breathing thing. It reminded him of the sea, obviously; but it was different too, cleaner, not as chaotic, almost --- calm. It was exactly what he needed but not what he wanted. Firefly wanted adventure and distraction. The longer he stood there, up to his wrists in the water, he felt a weight lifting from his shoulders and a soothing quiet settling around him.
The river was immense. He couldn't see the other side too clearly, although there were green-black smudges along the opposite bank - and the misted mountains, blurred from the distance as well as the clouds - so it wasn't as endless as the sea. He wondered if he could swim across, but knew better than to try; it was more likely that the center of the river was too deep and too quick, and he wasn't about to tempt fate like that. As he was observing the river though, Firefly thought he saw something splash — not just once, and not in one area either — and he grinned, realizing they were fish grabbing at springtime bugs.
Life here would be far easier than the coast, he thought — but he turned from the riverside and looked west, considerate of his next move. If Yami wanted to stay here for a while then that would be nice, but was he seeking nice? Or was he seeking crazy? Was Firefly a scoundrel and a pirate looking for some danger, or someone boring and tame? The man frowns as he thinks about it, then huffs, banishing the line of thought before it can spiral out of his control.
As long as Yami is with him, he'll be fine.
