Rannoch and Liffey were blissfully ignorant of all the hardships that the Redhawks and Firebirds had undergone recently. They lingered at the borders, pressed against each other as they waited. Rannoch sensed Liffey's anxiety and strived to silence her concern.

"It'll be a good time," he assured her gently; Rannoch always enjoyed the time they spent with his in-laws. He then began to comb the top of her head with his tongue, knowing how much it tended to soothe her.
