Quixote spoke, bearing the bad news of Wildefire's untimely passing, and grief overcame Rannoch immediately, stifling his voice for some time.

He had not been provoked by death in some time, and he had almost forgotten the anguish that came with it. When the shock finally subsided, around the time Liffey began to fumble through her thoughts, Rannoch was reminded that he was not as isolated as he had felt. Rannoch was surrounded by those who needed his support, and he sobered emotionally at the realization.

Rannoch would grieve later, on his own, once he had done what he needed to support them.

"Guys, I'm so sorry for your loss," he replied quietly. "We're here for you both—whatever you all need, we can help with," he pressed against his wife then, silently communicating his support for her as well.
a crime so old as the sky and bone
he came untied, solid as a stone
all is almost lost and it starts to show
