Snowforest Taiga living without you

the sound of someone's approach — unfamiliar, in scent — roused alsek from his light sleep. he remained still for a long moment, then slowly pushed his body to the deepest wall of his hiding place. the shadow outside steadily grew; having never experienced something of this nature, he relied wholly on lingering instinct.

alsek tried his best warning growl, something small and unthreatening. he yipped once, then again, and tried another round of growls assumed strong enough to scare away the intruder. 

his stomach rumbled once more, silencing the child's protest. adults brought food; maybe this stranger would have something to offer that could satisfy him until back at home. unsure, but willing to try, alsek slowly stepped toward the den's exit.
