Just as quickly as the grasshopper had landed on her paw, and it sprung away again, into the blades of grass. She wondered if the dark little boy would teeter off in pursuit, or find her the new object of his attention. Soft eyed, she marveled at the mere sight of him. He was so tiny! It was hard to imagine that she had ever been so small once.
Unfamiliar with the native tongue that came to him so naturally, Malila could only assume it was a basic form of saying hello. The word sounded close enough. Her tail mimicked the movements of his own, waving gently in the air. "Hello handsome one." She crooned in her light, sweet voice. Just then, while one insect had vanished, another appeared. It came fluttering down to land on her toe, a beautiful beetle painted in red with classic black dots. A ladybug, fanning its wings gently before settling.
