In fact, he left most everybody alone after his scolding from The Big Man. He had no interest in catching another set of yellow teeth to his face — or his scruff, ears, so on...

Still he made himself useful. When the night sky darkened, he stayed among the fringes of their camp. Tiredly watching out over the plains. Always watchful of the rise in the distance.

Yet when he thought he heard something move close to him, he sprang into immediate defense. Posed once more like he had been when they coyote hunted. Prepared to strike if it was not one of their own.
