Sometimes her breathing matched the odd sound coming through the cavern walls. The echo of waves - which Larus couldn't identify - was soothing him, up until Caiaphas spasm-ed awake. When she reared back he did what came naturally: ducked and pulled away, tripping over his own feet in the process.
Her hissing voice had him cowering, and then phwump, her paw stomped down to bring an end to the peace and quiet. The sound reverberated through the cave, but this time Larus wasn't interested in watching it travel.

The boy's voice was barely loud enough to hear, let alone bounce off of the walls. He squirmed in place, wanting to say what he really wanted yet too afraid. A few moments passed wherein Larus couldn't even muster up enough courage to look at the lady's stationary paw; but, gradually, his gaze began to flick between a fixed point near her toes and his own crossed paws.
