Fox's Glade returners

that smile of hers widens, albeit more bashfully than before. she feels flattered; the mountain man had such a way with words, even if he spoke little. she could see past the stoicism to catch a glimpse of what she believed to be a good, honest man beneath. it was a beautiful vision, one that made her heart stutter. 

perhaps it was all the unintentional flattery, but there was a warmth that was beginning to spark in her chest. one she'd only felt once, for a man she no longer wishes to remember. it's a flicker; barely there. but it nearly feels overwhelming and...

maybe it doesn't scare her the way it should. 

she finds herself peeking up at him from behind long lashes, eyes soft with awe and gratitude. she doesn't understand why he sees so much in her; and she may never. "im not sure what i've done to deserve your kindness, cole, but i appreciate it more than you know."

with a fuller, lighter heart, she stood beside him, her tail swishing languidly behind her. "will you take me to them?" she questioned gently, ready to begin her new journey. and selfishly, foolishly, her aching heart couldn't help but wish cole to be beside her.
