Oblivion could only last so long.
She did not know when her eyes opened, only that there was a brightness near the mouth of the den that had not been there before, serving as a hazy beacon.
There were shapes she knew through their warmth and their solidity, and these were bodies much like her own: dark, round, milksweet. Beyond feeling their presence, now she saw them as forms and figures.
It would take time before her eyes adjusted to the dark, and more than that before the blurry shapes condensed in her vision to become something recognizable. For now Ghenaya was mystified by the novelty of the moment: zeroed-in with a vision of glassy blue in the direction of the brightest star—Cede.
