The ability to see was a very important fixed point in a child's life, but they would remain oblivious to it—even forgetting these first few moments of light, of shape, and the novelty was not something that could be comprehended. It was much the same for Ghenaya; she did see them, blurry as they were, and she was fixated for a time upon the fog-made shape of her palest sibling above all—however, the more she looked the more tired her eyes felt.
Her blinking took some getting used to. One eye first, then the other eye drooping; then both, almost in tandem, and the relief that came with their closing. She did not recognize that their mother sang—but the song lulled her in to a stupor, and the steady cat-like blinking soon became the narrow-eyed watchfulness of those blurry bodies.
And soon enough she was forgetting all about the soreness of her eyes, or what they might show her. Ghenaya fell in to a light slumber while mother's voice hummed through the air.
