with a final, decisive leap, solharr drives his jaws deep into the cougar’s throat, his grip unrelenting. the beast lets out a strangled cry, its body convulsing in a final, desperate attempt to break free. but the force of solharr’s hold is too much. his one eye watches with cold focus as the life drains from the cougar’s body.

as the creature falls limp, solharr steps back, panting heavily. his chest heaves with the exertion, his golden eye flicking over to raedwulf and then to the dark woman, assessing the aftermath. the fight is over.

it’s done, he says, voice steady, his gaze lingering on the fallen predator. the mountain demands its respect.
