The brush of wings startled her out of her thoughts as the hawk abruptly came to perch on her shoulder. Pie’s mouth gaped, then she flinched. Did she have another botfly?! But the bird didn’t pick at her, merely stared at the side of her face and made a surprisingly soft noise in its throat.
