She had to hide her smile with a dip of her head when he bade her to return. She didn't want him to see the thread of anxiety there, nor the flush of pleasure.

"I'll come back," she replied, leaving it at that. She dipped her head to start scissoring the flesh from the hide once more, working until the nerves no longer showed on her face.

"I like it here," she said at last, when she felt able to speak again at all. "But it needs more women. Don't you think?"

She thought of Ponderosa, but she didn't think her sister would be keen to leave their mother's side.
