It did make them slow, but they were still healthy and strong( at least, Paar was). Except... Bazi had apparently taken a fall... And been hurt, and she had come back scrawny. But she was looking better. Star was not a warden, and knew nothing about "weak spots" at the borders. She'd seen and fought off some intruders, but never paid any attention to where they entered commonly. It was the warden's job to protect the borders, not a warrior's or a gamekeeper's. So basically all of what she said she beleived to be true.
