After the truck had fallen, Roadkill hadn't stuck with the majority of dogs that had escaped from the accident. She knew that there was no way that the other dogs would be of much use. The only thing that could salvage her soul was a good human. She didn't know where to find one, or if it was possible at all; after all, with her luck, she would just find another horrible human, like all of her previous ones. As a matter of fact, the humans of the place of cages were probably some of the better ones. Better than the ones she used to know, anyway.

While her stomach rumbled furiously, Roadkill took pause near a lake. She observed her surroundings and turned her head so that she could see on her blind right side (there was a gaping, scarred hole where her eye had once been). Then, when Roadkill felt more or less secure that she was alone, she dipped her head down to the water to take a sip.
