And almost true to form, the coppery yearling got another verbal lashing almost as soon as the words had left Mordecai's mouth. There was no doubt in his mind that he would be going now and chances were, he wouldn't return. Mordecai couldn't have said what this display between yearlings meant or said about the alpha who led them, but he doubted it was good. There hadn't been this much conflict when the Spine wolves had left Silvertip. There hadn't really been any at all.

Without another word, Mordecai headed off to leave them bickering among themselves. At least now he had a notion about them and something he felt would come in handy to relay to Dante in time. Perhaps Cara too, if she was willing to listen to his opinion. But those visits would come later, as there was much ground to cover in any direction he took.
