Moon hung high up, a bulb of light against the dark sky. Stars she did not know clung to this darkness. Zola was alone. She had lost the humans who had taken her, and yet her mind had stopped the moment they placed her in that box. It woke once more when she broke free, and she was not quite sure how she got to that point.

The most important lesson to take away from this is the humans did not follow. They dare not, for it was perhaps too cold? She felt the ice in her veins. Her blood must be blue now. The woman narrowed her amber eyes, trudging through the snow. She had found this tree-heavy place and took shelter for now. Resting under a large tree in particular, she curled up for warmth.

Snow... was a foreign concept. The mountains in her dear Africa had snow, yet none of her tribe had ventured up them in long time. At least the sky was clear, the light it gave off making certain she saw what was coming before it saw her.
