Limit Two

Though Pala did not plan to stay within Moonspear for much longer, that would not stop the need for territory to be marked. She had begun to focus on the area surrounding her ulaq primarily, accounting for her growing pup's tendency to wander. She couldn't blame them for being adventurous.

Hind legs holding her weight, Pala dug her claws into the trunk of a tree. She planned to leave some damn good claw marks, enough to show passing predators she meant business and get a good stretch in. Multitasking at it's finest.

Though he'd not been here long, White Elk found himself feeling quite at home on the mountain slopes. It was different terrain than Mountain Home, but not so unfamiliar as to be alien. The scents, too, were few enough that he adjusted to them almost at once. There was the stalwart and dedicated Sovereign's scent. Over here was that of the sister of the Regent. And this was the scent of the mother and her two young boys.

White Elk followed that one, another rabbit swinging from his jaws.

He found her making the borders and paused there to watch, just for a moment. Her scars did not quite shock him, but they were certainly stark in appearance. So distracting that it was a moment before he noticed the rest of her — pale and ghoulish and unlovely. The wagging of his tail slowed before he remembered his manners.

"Hello," he barked, announcing himself. The rabbit was dropped between them to allow him to better speak. "I am White Elk — I recently joined Moonspear's ranks. I wanted to offer my services to you as a hunter and a guardian."

It was obvious she was single. White Elk had wondered, before, but here in her presence, he could detect no scent of another male. And, looking at her — well. It was easy enough to put any further questions on the matter out of his mind.

sorry Pala for this gross man

She turned her head at the sound of a bark. A young man, a stranger, but he smelled like Moonspear nonetheless. Pala thought that he seemed to quite like himself from that gait and how easily he offered his supposed services. Only staring for the moment, she lowered herself back to the ground.

Pala. She responded, offering her own name. Why offer me your services? With her question she could not help but quirk a brow. There were surely better things to be doing, but she knew it was more than likely her own paranoia. Maybe he was only trying to be kind.

Despite this, she glanced back to her ulaq. Ludo was off with another adult, but Ignace was still inside.

Why... offer... his services?????

White Elk gazed blankly back at the woman, not quite sure he understood the question. What was a man if he wasn't doing things for others? How would anyone know what he was worth if he wasn't sticking his nose into other wolves' business? And why shouldn't he, a man, offer help to a woman who had no man to help her?

"Because we are of the same pack," he said after a moment, wondering if he was being terribly patronizing. He opened his mouth to take another stab at the question, and then instead, admitted, "I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. You have young children — it is the duty of your pack to pitch in and help you see that they grow healthy and strong. My duty."

Right? Surely the culture could not be all that different, could it? (Nervously, the herald recalled that awkward conversation about courtship with Valiant and the late moonwoman.)
