There seemed to be a warmth within the valley, even during these early winter days. A warmth sprung from company; Sega surely knew as much, with Angel back within Great Sky, and Barrett knew so, too, with the occasional fleeting thought of a certain lady. Even know, as he moved with purpose.
Such a purpose, in fact. He strode towards the chiefs den, giving a low chuff in announcement of his arrival. He would not poke his head inside, but rather, would call from the entrance: Ya wanna come huntin' with me, Sega? And while there was no urgency within him, there was something quite similar that laced his tone. He needed some air, that much was certain.
His paws fidgeted beneath him, now. He huffed.

sega lifted his head at the call, already rising before the last word left callahan’s mouth.

a low rumble answered first, then his voice:

i always hunt, he said, stepping from the den with a flick of his ear. come. we go.

they didn't linger longer; trailing a scent that screamed of prey.

the only thing he knew was the promise of running, the chase calling both their blood.

Quick response. This was good. Barrett needed to move, and he needed to move now, lest his head and heart erupt in scarlet synchronisation.
Barrett followed Sega. Following prey-trail. Barrett's mind slipped in and out of focus, his face hard, tail twitching behind him as they went.
The elk herd's scents were strong. Them, and the plentiful amounts of young bulls in rut, fighting for dominance and impression amongst the cows. Barrett scoffed internally at the thought, but found that he probably wasn't too far off from acting a buck himself. Sure was a little dumb, in the same way.
Was sure, too, that Twitch would crease her face and laugh, and agree with such a thing, but still, there would be a warmth behind her words. Or, at least, a warmth that he wished for. His brows drew together, now.
Thinking rather visibly, in fact, as they followed the scents and the trails.

sega padded beside him, long stride unhurried, nose working the cold air as they followed the rut-stamped trail. for a time he said nothing— letting the rhythm of movement settle callahan’s restless pulse. then, quieter than the snow under their paws, he spoke.

you meet many now, sega murmured. angel. elowyn. ravah. kasia.

his tail brushed once behind him, not quite a wag— more a sign of thought.

how you find them? he asked, voice low, meant only for the two of them. they kind? make you feel… home?

Sega spoke, and, though he wouldn't voice it, Barrett was mighty grateful that he did, for he thought that maybe, just maybe, he could have drowned in the lake of thoughts that muddied and warbled within his mind.
Angel. Elowyn. Ravah. Kasia. He was missing the most important one, in his list of people that Barrett had the pleasure of meeting.
Nothing could quite compare. Oh, they're mighty kind, alright, he murmured now. All'f them are good, came his start. It's just that, there's a girl 'ere, n', I think I like her, a lil' bit, and Barrett shook his head, as if forcibly trying to shake the very concept from his brain. His following words came with a scoff: Ta be honest, I'm kinda annoyed by it. Didn't really think I'd be the type ta like anyone in any sorta way, ever,.
He looked to Sega, then. Don't even know why I'm tellin' ya. Think it's just... stuck in ma head. We've talked a few times, y'know. She took me to 'er spot. Made some comments. Think maybe I'm gettin' myself in over ma 'ead, Barrett looked away and sighed, as if disappointed.
For, if it did lead to something, he didn't know if he would be good enough for @Vanja. Didn't want her to waste her time on a guy like him.
