snow. cortland tobias mayfair loved it. while mona shrank back and had to be forced out of doors, the boy in his new fuzzy winter coat leapt and danced in the light dustings as often as rowan would allow, even escaping simply to bask in the glory that was the pale coldness. today he was treated to the wind bearing snowflakes, which drifted gently down upon the pup as he sat outside his doorstep marvelling at it. small paws reached to bat at them; several times, cortland caught a flake satisfyingly between his teeth, and giggled to himself at how quickly it melted.

She came with a small fish, caught from the creek that she intended to give to Rowan once she reached the den. Once she was a little ways away from the den she caught sight of little Cortland and placed her fish in the cold snowy ground nearby.

"Hey Cortland, having fun?"  She yipped sweetly as she made her way towards the pup.  She smiled as she remembered her first winter and how much she had enjoyed the snow, just as Cortland seemed to be enjoying it now.

spring's pleasant voice snapped the pup out of his reverie; he approached her with a furiously wagging tail, reaching up to lick her chin as he'd seen both rowan and casmir do. she smelled sweetly of fish, and the chubby hobbit was not one to ever miss an opportunity to eat. "spwing," the xi chirped. "you fish?" the wolf called grace had promised to teach him when it was warmer, whatever that meant, and cortland had tasted the scaly meat before, but his stomach growled audibly at the prospect of more.

God, he was cute.  Butterfly's fluttered through her stomach as he licked her chin, she found it polite and so sweet all at once.  He was almost killing her with his adorableness.  She nodded once when he asked her if she fished.  "Of course Cortland.  Are you hungry?"  She replied with both an answer and a question.

She glanced up at the flakes falling from the sky as they drifted to the ground.  She blinked a little surprised as a few icy cold snowflake fell on her nose and a shiver ran through her body.  They were so pretty, but jeez those snowflakes no matter how pretty were cold.

he followed her glance upward and then tried to peer around her, tail swishing behind his hips. "yes!" when wasn't he down to eat; how about never. he frisked to her side. "mona doesn' like the snow," cortland whispered conspiratorially. "all she wants to do is stay inside. and i say 'mona, come outside.' but she says 'no, i doan' wanna.'" there. what would Spring think of that?
he hoped she was taking him to food soon. the stress of eating was burning calories and he was pretty much starving by now.

His little secretive talk about Mona almost made her laugh at the sillyness of it, but she caught herself having been a Mother before and just widened her eyes just a little bit, acting surprised and gave a few nods of her head.  "Wow Cortland, that's really interesting," she told him with a smile.  "Now how 'bout I go get you something to eat?"  She asked him, moving on to the subject of food.  Then she made her way towards the fish.

It only took her a little bit to get to the fish and hten picking it up she made her way back to Cortland.  She then laid it at his paws and used her fangs to pull away some skin on the belly and side of the fish so that it would be easy for Cortland to eat.  Then just in case she decided to ask him if he was even able to eat meat on his own yet, unassisted.  "Hey Cortland, can you eat meat on your own yet?"  She asked him in a sweet tone, while dearly hoping that he would not lie and say he could when he really couldn't yet.

spring seemed very interested in all he had to say, and so cortland puffed up and followed at her side. "food!" he blurted, always happy to eat. "yah!" he shouted. "i kin eat." moving forward, he snipped his little teeth into the fish-flesh and tore off a strip filet, scarfing it down as a little growl bubbled up from his fuzzy throat. "dis good," cortland piped, grinning up at the alpha. "did you kitch it inna streeem?"

He made quick work of the food and she was glad to see that he could eat on his own now.  She almost found herself beaming at the mention that he as enjoying her kill.

"Thank you Cortland, I'm glad you like it."  She paused for a moment, "and I actually caught it in our Creek which is bigger than a stream."  She informed him kindly.  She guessed that he probably had meant the creek but instead had said a stream not knowing the difference, but it was still good for the little guy to know the differences between the two bodies of water for future reference.

he cleaned his lips while spring spoke, correcting him. "creek!" he piped. grace had shown him ... what exactly? a stream? why were there so many different names for water? the boy blinked, his brow furrowing. come to think of it, he had a lot of questions, beginning with what "what happens if'n i eata bone?" he asked, pawing at the thin white skeleton of the fish. "izzit good to eat?" food was obviously his first love.

One topic to another.  Water to bones.  She found his level of curiousity cute and a good thing to.  Surely if he stayed the way he was, he would become wiser as he aged, with all the knowledge that he would get from not being afraid to just ask.

"Actually with a bone, you do this thing called gnawing.  Here, let me show you."  She began to gnaw on of the skull of the fish, showing Cortland how it was done, then she stopped, glancing at him.  "It actually feels pretty good and it's kinda fun in a way.  Do you want to try?"
