it was another breezy overcast evening, and the snow had gradually but finally succumbed to the rising temperatures and shifted to rain.
she had taken the day to rest. it was incredibly unusual to not see reigi marking the borders or guarding the valley, especially after her assault and the removal of her collar. but the young alpha felt as if she deserved it. she was tired and world-weary, and her heart hung heavy with the burdens that would surely arrive as she and the redleaf woman had their children.
they would cross that bridge when they got there. she did not dare to think of what the redleaf girls might do to her children — too often she roused from nightmares of soft, tender pups breaking between hateful jaws.
she would not let it bother her today. the wind had shifted and the snow had begun to melt — in its soggy wake, wildflowers had begun to bloom.
she turned her nose to the sky and breathed deep of the smell of winter on the cusp of spring. soon, the thunder would steal this solace from her and send her bolting deep within the valley, hiding from the world-shaking noise and blinding scars of light.
but as of now, the rain had just begun to fall, and the raven danced, throwing her head back in the air and emitting delighted, breathy yips accentuated by the graceful sweeping of her limbs.
