All Welcome
Morning came early on the coast and Lucas wasted nary a second of it. He was up at the crack of dawn, a habit he'd developed in his time with the troupe (though he'd always been an early riser). He spent a few minutes waking himself with a shake and a quick little morning dance, then stretched his legs and headed further inland. There wasn't much to the beach this time of year, and he was a land wolf at heart. The trees and promise of adventure deeper in the grove beckoned him more readily than the sea crashing on the sand did.

He'd learned by now that the sea water wasn't fit for drinking, but luckily the growing pack had access to fresh water. He splashed across a stream winding through the trees, bending for just a moment to slake his thirst, and then began to ascend toward the moors overlooking the grove. The incline was shallow at first, a sort of rolling hill through the woods, but all of sudden the ground rose up in a swell. It was here that Lucas had spotted a hare the other day, and he meant to try to catch it today.

The rise was earthy and made of rich soil. If he was older and had priorities better aligned with the season, he might have realized that the ground here was good for bedding. It was an ideal denning site for the pack and any future pups the leaders might produce. That wasn't on Lucas' mind at all, though; he was fixated on the small, nearly hidden entrance of a rabbit warren with hunger in his eyes.
