the black-helmed brute had obeyed stigmata’s rule, though on more than on occasion he had found his gaze wandering curiously to the peak, as if expecting some pale savage to come shrieking down the snowpack at any second. wondering as he was, he was pleased to pick up the scent of stigmata returning. 

doggedly, the cur followed stigmata’s fresh set of prints until he came upon the brute, who presently had been intercepted by a female thorn had not met. he hung back, a grim gargoyle watching the mountain, and waiting for any command.
