Days dragged by, excruciatingly so, and Artyom could find nothing to alleviate the weight atop his shoulders. His mind remained fogged by thoughts of his family's future and, while the timing was all wrong as he awaited instruction from allies regarding their stand against the wolfdog, the golden Alpha did not wish to place his packmates' lives on hold.

Dawn struggled. His mate was the strongest wolf he knew and she did her best to hide her woes behind a brave face, but this pain was one that Artyom could plainly see. He didn't want to leave her with the strain of leading alone, though figured giving her some space for a few days to process her grief might help.  With a fond farewell to one half of his family, Artyom encouraged Winter and @Juniper to him as he turned to greet the new morning sun and lead his offspring on their journey deeper into the taiga.

"Быть осторожен," the ranger told the cubs as they crossed the river, having felt the pull of its current at his limbs. He paused briefly, allowing his son to carry on ahead and reaching to nudge Juniper encouragingly to his side when she drew close enough.

On they searched, to the Northern shores but not quite as far as he'd travelled with Germanicus. And while their days-long hunt for a new place to call home was proven fruitless and the weather took a grim turn for most of it, Artyom and his children were glad for the distraction. They were glad to turn heads toward Whitebark once more, however, and even more so to be welcomed back by the family that awaited their return.
