Of, of course. Karma, you just had to stroll smackdab into a meadow, didn't you? It's one of those meadows, too; the ones he assumed were something out of dreams, bursting with enough color to make one eye squint. Even with the haze of autumn clouding the sun and greying the light behind it, the verdant swell of the earth coupled with all it's "wondrous hues" had the older fellow a bit dizzy. Too many scents he'd never particularly liked, not enough fast routes out.
Quietly, he turned his head back to where he came from. The glade beckoned to him, and he was tempted to run back and take another route around the mountains. No, he'd chosen this one; meadow or not, this was still valuable strategic territory to someone, he was sure, and he wasn't about to chance possible defeat for the sake of a few pretty smells. Huffing through his nose, he kept his pace through the flowers, tossing a mindful glance about. So far as he knew, wolves here melted out of the very seams, and he hadn't been able to let his defenses down since he entered, however subtle they might have been.

Feeling very greatful for but also very skeptical about Steady's apparent acceptance of his actions, Grayday was feeling the need to pull a little more weight than usual. If he was going to bring Amber here - and the idea was an appealing one, he had to admit - he needed to make sure Steady knew he'd work extra hard to support both her and the rest of the pack. This was his family, and he knew he'd be putting them in a tough position by bringing a pregnant woman into their midst.
Which was why he was out on his own, following rabbit trails with his nose to the ground. "Steady, you are a saint," he sighed to himself, shaking his head in bemused admiration. "Or you're planning something," he added, under his breath. Still no live scents. Maybe he needed to find a good trail before following his nose. Lifting his head and looking around, his heart almost stopped when he realized that Steady was here and close enough to have heard him. "Steady - I'm - oh."
Not Steady, then. Not according to his nose.
"Sorry, sir," he said quickly, squinting at the other wolf. He was still a ways off, but had doubtlessly heard him talking to himself. He was not exactly embarrassed, but he would be glad if this never got back to his pack. "Thought you were someone else."
They hardly looked similar; must have been his guilty conscience. Still, Day wasn't sure he wanted to continue his hunt with an unidentified male nearby.
