Pied expressed a kindness, but since Pump was the tomboyish kind she would never ever admit that this had been a touching gesture, indeed. She rolled her eyes and looked away, saying: "'tis was nothing." And with that the wound was completely forgotten and she focused on the fresh meal before her.

Had she been the one to kill it, she wouldn't be sharing much with Pied - a pack mate or not - Pump's needs were on top of the pyramid and then came everything else. Now she simply sighed and yawned, went over to the carcass and began to tear away the badger's hind leg. She did not feel comfortable being in such a close proximity to the other wolf and wanted to eat in her own private space.

I hope it's cool to wrap this up, 'specially since we have a more current thread. :)

Although they'd killed the badger together (well, for the most part) and Pied had invited Pump to eat, her feral instincts elicited a growl from low in her throat when the other she-wolf approached the carcass. Luckily, Pump quickly tore off a hind leg, preferring to move away and eat in peace. She left Pied standing over the remains, one paw pinning them down as she wolfed down mouthfuls of raw meat.

When she was filled to bursting, Pied stepped a few paces away from the pile of pulp, bones and gristle and slumped onto her haunches. She licked her chops, enjoying the last traces of cold blood clinging to her lips. She then sank forward onto her belly with a satiated sigh. Her chin found her paws and her eyes fluttered closed even as Mag wheeled in the sky overhead, as if giving witness to the successful hunt she'd empowered.
