His wandering had led him to a field he immediately regretted finding. The place felt wrong; every time he stopped to scan his gaze over the uneven ground, his hackles raised a little. He thought having the light from the moon to keep him from being completely surrounded in darkness might lessen his unease, but all it did was give the field a strange, creepy glow.

He had only been trying to find a safe place to sleep for the night, but the longer he searched here, the more sure he was that he would not be spending the night here. But finding a better place meant making his way through the tall grass. A few times, he found himself suddenly tripping over a large, dirt mound, which only gave him more reason for minimizing his time here. He trotted at a fairly quick pace, afraid that if he went much fast he might fall, but also afraid of going any slower. Once or twice, he stopped and cast a worried look around him, but he didn't dare stay in one place any longer than a few seconds. He could see the outline of what he thought was a forest far off in the distance, and he just focused on getting there—or at least he tried.

The familiarity of this place strikes him in a strange way, but the feeling is familiar by now. It's been that way for some time now, though he can't pinpoint when the change had started. At some point, the scenery had just started to nag at him — something about the placement of things, the way the sun cast over a rock or the position of a tree at the base of a mountain. He feels like he's been here before — and he has for miles, through terrain changes and the shifting of the season. It's disconcerting for the orphaned prince, the boy who lost his entire kingdom not so long ago. He gets so distracted by it that sometimes, things slip right by him —
Like now. The darkness registers suddenly, and then the presence of another — how long had he been standing there, lost in thought? He shakes his head slightly, chastising himself. And then, directed into the darkness — Hello? Who are you? He's certain someone is there — but he's not certain they're friendly. He's always been taught that respectable wolves don't skulk around in the dark; but after a moment, he realizes he could be accused of such himself, and relaxes slightly. Perhaps the stranger is in the same boat as him.

The voice startled him greatly, and he froze where he was, frantically searching around to find its source. His heart raced even faster against his ribs, and he swallow hard against the panic rising in his chest. What was he supposed to do now? The other wolf obviously knew he was here, so it wasn't likely that he could get away if they wanted to hurt him. And if he stayed? The outcome was likely to be the same. Unless—unless by some miracle this stranger was just as lost as he was, trying to find his way through the creepy field when he realized he hadn't been alone.

So Pheiros did the only thing he could think of, drew in a steadying breath and said: P-Pheiros—I'm Pheiros. he swallowed again. W-who are you? He looked around again, not seeing anything. I don't want any trouble. Maybe if they knew that, they wouldn't do anything to him.

Fear. He can smell it, feel it in the air even before the stranger stammers out a response. The prince relaxes further, smirking slightly as he speaks again. Castor Cambria, Prince of Skyhold. Don't be afraid; I mean you no harm. Come closer. He moves forward even as he says it, searching for the other wolf in the darkness. The stranger sounds masculine, young like himself — perhaps an ally in this lonely time. Or competition. Only time will tell.

The stranger introduced himself as a prince—the term was lost on him though, because he had no idea what a prince was. He was intrigued, anyway, probably more than be should he in a dark, unknown place with a wolf he didn't know.

He did say he meant him no harm, though, and Pheiros was much too nice to not take him at his word even though he knew he should be more careful. So he did as the other boy asked, and took a few more steps forward, towards the sound of his voice. A silver beam of moonlight broke through the shadow then and cast a glow across the stranger's handsome face. Pheiros paused and smiled shyly, dipping his head in greeting. He thought he should maybe say something more, but his mind suddenly went blank and he ended up just standing there awkwardly.
