Eventually, after many a detour and delay, Fjall and his guide came into view of a familiar sierra landmark. It was not familiar to the boy, but Ariadne knew without a doubt that they were nearing the end of their journey from the west, and he trusted her without question.
Snow fell around them this day, soft and steady like dust, slowing their progress some despite the fact that both wolves seemed to be in good spirits and Fjall’s limp had lessened over the last day or so.
