She didn't know what she had expected.
The afternoon found her in the heart of the forest. The sunlight dappled her coat golden as she stared down at the shallow water. It was still, or mostly so, at this part of the stream. The light glinted silver on the scales of the tiny fish as they flashed through the water.
Liri stretched out on the sun-warmed stone, watching the pool of water as her head dangled over its edge, inches from the water.
She didn't know what she had expected.
Bits and pieces of the conversation with Horosk came back to her.
His eyes roamed over her and she felt shame.
He stepped back from her and she felt her heart breaking.
He wasn't hers to want. He wasn't hers to miss. And still - her heart longed for him.
She was wrong when she thought she didn't love him. How could she not?
She'd dreamed of him, even in the past winter when she was completely alone and had no idea of what had become of him. The lonely girl had chalked it up to their connection, the fact that he was the one to find her in her moment of need.
But that wasn't it. Maybe that had been the start of it, but when confronted with him for the first time in years, she'd been hurt to see that he didn't want her.
He hadn't missed her. Not like she'd missed him.
Liri buried her head beneath her paws.
What a mess.
"i'll keep you here when I lose my mind."
