The idea of trespassing onto a territory that was known for it's limited field of view in the day time at night seemed like a suicide mission. Not only was it difficult to tell was was ground and what was Earth, but it was to be navigated by a boy. A boy who knew the bravery of his elder brothers, Riptooth and Sun Spot; the War Hero and the Solider. Males who feared nothing and who's very name caused the fur on his back to stand up and his body to uncontrollable shake. Their courage was steel and their thoughts just as mysterious as the Earth's layout before him, but he would not show fear. He set forth on his journey his body dipping and slipping into the murky water. He struggled to keep his head up, but he pressed even though he could feel the eels of Sos slithering around his hindquarters as he paddled to solid Earth.
Reaching an area that was mostly Earth and trees he paused allowing his labored pants to echo throughout the humid night air. His licked his jowls tasting the heat lingering in the air and the nats that called this soup like air home swarmed his body and face. They were waiting for a feast. Waiting for the boy wonder to fail. His gaze caught sight of the moon as it barely clung to the night's sky. Sos was in power tonight driving away the feminine moon. Smothering her. Suffocating her. He coughed as the nats bedded down on his tongue. He had to keep moving. He had to keep moving through Sos's play land.
The gnarl's of the tree stumps reached out for him snagging his feet and legs making the boy stumble into a deep inky pond. Belly flopping loudly against the water he heard the hoots and the yells of Sos's creatures. He could feel the claws of Sos wrapped around his leg and as he wanted to yell and wanted to cry he thought of his brothers and of his father. Oak Heart would never allow himself to be so scared. No, his father would have turned around and growled at Sos and the dark God would have let him go or they would have been dragged to the bottom in a battle. His nose was still above the water breathing in the sickeningly pungent air. He didn't care the deep smell of stagnant water, rot, and moss let him know he was alive and for a moment it was the only thing that was truly real.
Relaxing he kicked his back leg gently and lo and behold he was set free. He crawled to the surface once more his oak and silvery fur were soaked and the boy felt the fear roar in his chest. He was afraid. He was alone in the land of Sos with the Moon above him and Water surrounding him. There was nothing to help him, there was nothing to remind him of who he was. He sat there shivering in the muggy night as sweat dripped from his paws and his mouth was parted with a the quick pant of a boy filled with fear. His gray gazed happened to fall on a clearing in the distance it seemed to be more of the twisted trees, but between them in a semi circle seemed to be just flat land.
Oak Maniitok ran forward not caring for the mud and the ick that clung to his fur and as his paws gripped the sturdy and safe Earth he began to roll. Joy filled the once fear filled heart of the boy and he knew only the bliss of being safe. His stomach however would not allow him to enjoy himself for long. Laying on his back he spotted a cluster of mushrooms, oddly bright this dark night, and his stomach growled. His ears were perked at the idea of eating an easy meal.
