Wildfire knew Elwood Jr couldn't particularly help his reaction, not after all he'd gone through with Finley's disappearance. But she couldn't bring herself to lie just to soothe him; it didn't feel right. The youth opted to say nothing instead, though she continued to hug him back, pat his head and do whatever else she could think to do to calm him down.

She mouthed, "Sorry," to Finley over her cousin's head. She shouldn't have brought it up in front of him, in hindsight. Wildfire sighed, wishing she could un-ring the bell. Wildfire didn't like that she'd upset him and she also didn't like that little Elwood's wails were creating guilt not only just for Moonspear but for all travel outside the caldera.
