Sea lions sounded like they ought to be avoided at all costs. They way Thistle described them, they sounded a bit like bears that just happened to live in the ocean rather than on land. In the next breath, she mentioned her mate (Floki's father, Wildfire noted mentally) and said that his size had probably been the reason for his success as a hunter. Wildfire's lips twitched downward thoughtfully. She hoped that wasn't entirely true. She supposed a larger wolf might have more success with bigger prey. Wildfire imagined her small size and quick feet actually gave her an edge when it came to the littler beasts.

"Really?" she questioned when Thistle mentioned Floki's namesake, then said even the boy himself might not know about it. "He's not good, he's great," she disagreed with an impish smile, hoping his mother might appreciate that. "So what were Ragnar and his best friend like...?" she wondered, similarly hoping Thistle would enjoy the fact that Wildfire already knew a little bit about her late husband.
