Finley seemed more intrigued by the mention of a lone wolf rather than a gaseous goat. "She seemed pretty cool," the youth reported even as they ascended, Wildfire slightly ahead of her godmother as she led the way up a winding footpath. "Her name was Roz," she shared absently, intuiting that the name would be of no particular significance to Finley. But she was an Outrider too, so perhaps they'd met somewhere along the way.

There were no signs of goats, gassy or otherwise, but Wildfire spotted a bent pine that caught her eye. Exchanging a quick glance with Finley, she veered off the trail and went to inspect it. Her muzzle dropped to sniff at the roots, then a bit further up the trunk. The rough bark tickled her nose. Beyond it, she spotted several more, all of them growing at odd angles due to the rocky slopes. She wondered why they had bothered trying to grow here at all. She supposed the trees had had no more say in where they'd been planted than she'd had in choosing her parents or the caldera.

"Going up!" she announced after a few moments, doubling back to resume their trek up the foot trail.
