Mind if I crash here? ;)

A cool, gray day bled into a cold, purple night and Wildfire skulked around the mountainside in search of something to eat. She hunted in part because she didn't want to think, but mostly because she was genuinely hungry. She hesitated when the scent trail of a young mountain goat led downward, though her appetite eclipsed her trepidation and she began her descent. When she neared the foothills, she found she wasn't the only one tracking the young nanny goat. She literally crossed paths with a coyote, a male coyote, who froze at the sight of her.

She didn't even think about what she was doing before she was attacking. As the smaller canine turned to flee toward the neighboring forest, Wildfire leaped at his backside. Her forelegs came down on his lower back, knocking him off balance and slowing him down significantly. She was on him in the next breath, sharp teeth angling for the back of his neck. The coyote screamed and flipped onto his back, kicking at her stomach in an effort to shove her off him.

Wildfire recklessly refused to relent. The two of them became a flurry of fur, fangs and blood whirling through the twilit air like a tornado. When it finally calmed after a quarter of an hour, the she-wolf stood panting over the coyote's lifeless body. Deep scratches marked her pale underbelly and the skin would surely bruise from the kicks she had taken. Her right ear was ripped and bleeding and there were tooth and claw marks all over her neck and chest. The wounds from her previous fight had also reopened, bleeding freely.

She stood there, catching her breath as she deliberated over what to do first: feed, or clean her wounds? Then the young she-wolf abruptly realized she was not alone (not counting the still-warm corpse at her feet). Her amber eyes squinted at the silvery figure in the middle distance even as her ears slanted backward. Her nostrils flared and Wildfire felt some measure of relief when she identified the scent as female.
