There was a pause before she responded, but when she did, it was with the answer he had hoped to hear. He reached out to nudge her cheek with his snout, eyes closing briefly, but when she spoke his name he withdrew again. His brows pulled into a frown at the expression on her face, but before he could say anything, she beat him to the punch.

"I found Lucy."

Elwood blinked, at first unable to comprehend what Finley meant. She had found Lucy? How was that possible -- when, and where? And why was this the first he was hearing of it? Why wasn't she here, with her family?

He opened his mouth, and no sound came out at first -- then he managed to whisper, "What?"
