He was silent while she spoke, listening to everything as Koontz explained to him what, exactly, a Dreamserpent did. Communication was something that he was terribly lacking in, especially since he’d withdrawn into himself since the death of his parents. He spoke only when spoken to and rarely went out of his way to talk with anyone, including his own brother and sister. The thought of having to try to break out of the shell that he’d surrounded himself with was, in all honesty, more than just a little scary and worrisome, but he didn’t want to disappoint the new Alpha, either.
“I can try,” he answered a few moments after she’d completely finished speaking. “I’m not sure how many will feel comfortable talking to me, though…” This was just one of his concerns. Being blind wasn’t just a matter of not being able to see. Others did treat him differently and there were always those who tried to avoid him like the plague simply because he was different and made them feel uncomfortable with his unblinking stare. “Back home, before my parents died, the stars would talk to me. I could hear them clearly just as I can hear you clearly. But I haven’t been able to hear them for several months now.” He wasn’t entirely sure why he was telling her this, but maybe it would help her learn him better.
