It was twilight, and the world was a sea of gray swimming around them as he woke his family that day. Silently, they yawned and blinked and stretched their limbs, slowly shaking the sleep from their coats.
Outside, the air was chill - but not freezing - and pleasantly crisp. Grayday took a deep breath of the morning and let it out in a long, slow whoosh of white vapor.
It was time to go. The very idea of it had filled him with a sense of trepidation since it'd first taken root in his heart. But on this morning, he found that it was not anxiety, but excitment that made his paws dance across the earth, to-and-fro between his companions as he incited a game of tag. They played all the way to the borders before the man bid them stop, and then lifted his silver head to give a loud and sonorous howl, being joined by at least one of his family as he bid farewell-for-now to the wolves that'd been their assylum for so long.
Having said their goodbyes, the group travelled onward.
